Ordinary chondrite, shocked and brecciated (L6,br; S5; W1)
Found,1975; 2.5702 kg

Yamato 75097 is one of several meteorites collected during a joint US-Japan expedition. The meteorite is seen to have chondritic textures with indistinct chondrules and chondrule fragments exhibiting extensive integration onto the groundmass. The primary phases are olivine (Fa 24.1) and pyroxene (Fs 20.1) accompanied by minor amounts of plagioclase, merrillite, Fe-Ni metal, and troilite. Relic chondrules include barred, porphyritic, and radial types (BO, PO, POP, RP). Fe-Ni metal and troilite are often pooled at interstices of relic chondrules. Olivine composition is indicative of the L (low iron) geochemical group; silicate equilibration and chondrule integration are indicative of the petrologic type L6 classification. Thin black veinlets, maskelynite, and the fractured, mosaicized olivine are all indicative of strong pre-terrestrial shock (level S5). Weathering is minimal (level W1).

Several unusual clasts have been studied within the Y-75907 meteorite including both Brachina-like and H chondrite-type inclusions. The H-type inclusion has an apparent Ar-40 degassing age of ~490 Ma perhaps indicating a collisional history separate from other components of the meteorite. In addition, similar compositions, cosmic ray exposure ages (~17 Ma) and C-14 ages (~1.5 ka) for Y-75907 and several additional meteorites found nearby all appear to confirm the supposition that they are all members of a single meteorite shower.
