Rogan Josh is hosted in a sequence of volcaniclastic sediments, intruded by porphyries, and similar to the Hannans South prospect, listed under the Kalgoorlie Mindat heading.
The deposit has a sub-horizontal supergene zone, 700 metres long and 2 to 8 metres thick, 10 to 30 metres below the surface, beneath a depletion zone. The supergene zone extends south from the deposit by 50 metres. Moderate grade bedrock gold mineralisation is found within carbonate-sericite altered quartz feldspar porphyry.
Rogan Josh is part of a double plunging, north-west trending, antiformal structure called the Feysville Dome, bounded to the west by the Boulder-Lefroy Fault, and south by the Feysville Fault. The ultramafics are intruded by intermediate to felsic porphyry.
There are a number of historic workings in the area, some of which are listed under the Feysville Mindat heading. Gold is found at the sheared contacts of the intrusive porphyry units, with pyrite-sericite altered porphyry, and also associated with chalcopyrite, magnetite/epidote altered breccia zones within the ultramafic units.
The gold found is low grade at 0.2 to 0.5 g/t. It was discovered by BM Geological Services with Minecomp, interpreted at the time as a supergene anomaly. 300 000 tonnes of ore at 2.0 g/t was estimated but is non JORC compliant.
