The Adonis Gold Mine is in the Morning Star area, and along with a number of other historic leases was swallowed up later by the large Morning Star Pit. The owner was a Mr B. Pember, however a dispute in 1896 over ownership occurred when J.E. Witherow jumped the claim. The warden initially awarded half the claim to each, but when Witherow did not appear in court, it was awarded totally to Pember.
The aim of the lease was to find the continuation of the Venus lode, the Venus mine adjoining to the south. Two shafts were sunk, however the lode was never discovered on the lease. Pember also owned the Adonis North and Monarco leases.
