A large aggregate and landscaping stone quarry hosted in a gneissic upper member of the Middletown formation intruded by many small, simple, poorly mineralized pegmatites.
Aplites can be found consisting of saccharoidal albite and many small euhedral almandine garnet crystals. The garnets are very fractured and mostly impossible to remove from the matrix without shattering them.
Large, poorly formed almandine garnet crystals to 4cm occurring as porphyroblasts in gneiss are found in reasonable abundance. They are notable due to their size but are poorly formed and not of good enough quality to be worth collecting.
Gedrite crystals can be found in a near identical occurrence to those at Beaver Meadow Road in Haddam, however they are far less common and of poorer quality here.
