Spectacle Lakes are two adjoining lakes, named after their orientation, situated about 13 km north-west of Hattah and immediately west of Hattah airport.
The lakes are covered by a permanent salt crust and the mineralogy comprises principally glauberite, gypsum and halite. The glauberite, in crystals up to 1 cm across, is found in only one of the lakes. Gypsum occurs in mud as prismatic crystals and groups of crystals, lenticular crystals, penetration twins on (100) and butterfly twins on (101). Some of the halite is coloured pink, sometimes with layers of deeper colours, especially purple and green.
It should be noted that the map for Nangiloc is incorrect and that the lakes are in Hattah.
