Ophiolitic outcrop (650 m of maximum extent) located close to the village of Sassomorello, along the Rossenna stream. It is delimited by straight
escarpments and crops out in the surrounding landscape composed of Varicolored and Palombini shales.

The outcrop consists of breccias with serpentinite clasts of variable dimensions. Locally, gabbroic clasts also are present. Lizardite, occurring as trigonal prisms, is ascribable to the 1T polytype (Laurora et al., 2011).

Two organic minerals, i.e., weddellite and whewellite, occur on the surface of lherzolitic serpentinite.
