Palpalá is a department of the province of Jujuy (Argentina).
Iron mines and Steel industrial complex, Altos Hornos Zapla, in Palpalá District.
Elevation: 1,034 m. above sea level.
Iron deposits: sedimentary horizons: Zapla, Sierras de Puesto Viejo, Jujuy. Large concentrations of Hematite. It is the most abundant mineral ore, grain very fine, pseudomorphic according to chamosite. Accompanied by silica, chamosite, mica, siderite, pyrite. Derived from chamosite diagenesis.
