Salvador Calderón, in his work "Los Minerales de España", mentions with regards to andalusite that, although initially it was thought that the first specimens came from Andalusia, the specimens, in fact, came from "El Zahurdón", El Cardoso de la Sierra, Guadalajara, Spain.
In the 1970s, several quartz veins embedded in schists in the vicinity of El Cardoso were worked in an artisanal way.
