Road cut on north side of state Route 4 exposing both the early Jurassic Talcott Basalt and underlying Triassic New Haven Arkose. Minerals occur mostly in the interstitial spaces between lava pillows in the Talcott; green secondary copper mineralization is visible in the arkose, with malachite formed along the bedding planes. The basalt exposed in the "jug handle" part of the interchange and the small commuter parking lot east of the cut is the Jurassic Holyoke Basalt, which is not mineralized here. A fault separates the two basalt flows here, with the normally intervening Jurassic Shuttle Meadow formation missing.
