Superlarge metamorphic graphite deposit, occurring in high-grade metamorphic sillimanite schist, sillimanite gneiss and minor garnet-sillimanite-cordierite gneiss of the Mashan Group. The orebodies are stratiform, up to several km long and several tens to over a hundred of meters thick. Possibly due to the effect of reversed folding, the graphite-bearing horizon is located below the sillimanite-bearing horizon. The protolith for the sillimanite bodies is an aluminium-rich clay sedimentary rock formed by intensive weathering of basement granite and deposition in shallow water. This rock suite underwent amphibolite-granulite metamorphism and folding deformation.
Note:
Not to be confused with the Sandaogou gold deposit of Huanan County.
