Magnesium skarn enclosed in marble and pelitic gneises, amphibolites and granulitic gneis. Contact zone with alpine peridotites-serpentinites (Mijas massif).
Spinel-clinohumite-forsterite assemblage forming lenses and banded exoskarn with pyrrotite, phlogopite and graphite. Spinel occurs in large crystals up to 1.5 cm in size, preferably with red, dark red, black, crimson, purple and violet colours. Clinohumite crystals, often showing twinning, are up to 2 cm in size size (smaller than Sierra de Benalmádena crystals), and associated with pyrrhotite and limonite.
