Although Trevaunance Mine was a fairly significant mine in the St Agnes Area, surprisingly little detail of its history is written down.

J.H. Collins made the following comment in his Observations on the West of England Mining Region, published in 1912:

"Trevaunance, Wheal, St Agnes. Worked at one time with the Goonlaze Mine as Trevaunance Consols and at another as Trevaunance United. A very ancient and profitable mine said to have given £100,000 in dividends. In 1864 Trevaunance was 60 fathoms deep (to adit) and employed twelve people, but very little has been done below that level. In 1870 employed thirty people. In 1843-4, sold 1158 tons of copper ore for £3625 (Trevaunance Consols); 1861-83 sold 550 tons of black tin (Wheal Trevaunance); 188-7 sold 510 tons of black tin."

The stack of the pumping engine still remains as a prominent feature of the site, with the truncated base of the enclosed beam winding engine being visible a short distance to the east of the stack.

These features lie within private land but can be viewed from the adjacent public highway.

A significant pit, possibly a former open work, lies to the northern side of Trevaunance Road, opposite the aforementioned stack and engine house base.

Considerable dumps are located in this pit, although much is now covered by heavy undergrowth.

Samples of Cassiterite can be collected from these dumps with diligence.

The occurrence of much of the Cassiterite is as crystals on joint planes in metamorphosed killas, generally suggestive of a stockwork type of structure.

The entire pit area is designated as open access (right to roam) land and contains several paths in various states of order from easily passable to heavily grown in.

Historically the Trevaunance Mine has been renowned for producing specimens of Fluorite displaying a tetrahexahedron crystal habit, often referred to as a 'four-faced cube'.

Fluorite can still be found on the dumps, but generally only as massive material nowadays.

Good crystalline Topaz specimens can also be found with careful searching.

'Tourmaline'
Formula: AD3G6 (T6O18)(BO3)3X3Z
'Wolframite Group'
Description: Wolframite not previously noted at Trevaunance Mine. Limited number of specimens found to date, of limited quality but an interesting occurrence.
