PH1-2XUQuartz (Var: Amethyst) SiO2
Bill's Old Amethyst Mine, Pearl Station area, Thunder Bay District, Ontario, CanadaDimensions: 12 inches x 12 inches x 4 inches
This is an amethyst we collected at our mine. It is still covered in the pocket clay, it is a really messy job to collect. We ended up covered in clay while collecting but it was well worth it. We had the time of our lives collecting at the mine.
Rockhounding
Bill's Old Amethyst Mine, Pearl Station area, Thunder Bay District, Ontario, CanadaThis is a photo of a visitor collecting in the amethyst dumps. Kids really enjoying collecting in the dumps. It is nice to see their faces light up when they find a precious crystal or frog or snake. Lots of smiling kids collecting and learning in the dumps.
Mine Office
Bill's Old Amethyst Mine, Pearl Station area, Thunder Bay District, Ontario, CanadaWe have been busy fixing up the property so tourists/rock hounds can come visit us. This was all overgrown when we first moved in. The mine office has a store for tourists to buy souvenirs. Our goal is to completely renovate our office/store.
There is plenty of parking and we can accommodate parking for RVs.
Mine entrance
Bill's Old Amethyst Mine, Pearl Station area, Thunder Bay District, Ontario, CanadaThis is the welcome sign to Bill's Old Amethyst Mine. We reopened this mine in the summer of 2014. There is lots of work to do but having a great time fixing up the mine and meeting new people. We will open sometime after May long weekend.
Stop by this summer, you mine get to meet Bill the former owner, a great help to us and quite a character. He has some great stories to tell.
