Name:
The root name leakite is in honor of Scottish geologist Bernard Elgey Leake [1932-], University of Glasgow and who was chairman of the IMA subcommitte to revise amphibole nomenclature. The chemical prefixes designates the chemical relationship in the group.
The mineral originally described as fluoroleakeite by Cámara et al. (2010) are now named ferri-fluoro-leakeite as the leakeite group was redefined in the 2012 amphibole nomenclature.
The name fluoro-leakeite is now used for the Na, Mg, Al and F dominant member of the group, which was originally named fluoro-aluminoleakeite by Roberti et al. (2009).
The name fluoro-leakeite is now used for the Na, Mg, Al and F dominant member of the group, which was originally named fluoro-aluminoleakeite by Roberti et al. (2009).
