Named in honor of Alan Kulan (1921, Toronto, Ontario, Canada - 1977) a prospector who worked in the Yukon and discovered several sizable lead-zinc-silver deposits. He submitted the first specimens of Yukon phosphates to the Royal Ontario Museum.
