Name:
Named in 1840 by Julius Fröbel in honor of Saxon mineralogist Johann Friedrich August Breithaupt {May 16,1791 Probstzella, Germany - September 22, 1873). Breithaupt was professor at the Bergakademie in Freiburg, Germany and later successor to Friedrich Mohs at the Natural History Museum in Vienna. Breithaupt was a prolific systematic mineralogist and originated the concept of paragenesis. Originally named antimonickel and described in 1833 by Friedrich Stromeyer.
