About Breislakite
A variety of Vonsenite
A fibrous variety of vonsenite.
It was originally named by Brocchi in 1817 for a mineral high in iron and containing manganese, occurring in wool-like forms from Vesuvius and Capo di Bove. It was referred to at various times as pyroxene, amphibole, fayalite, and ilvaite.
Analysis and x-ray study, including a detailed study of the structure, show that it is an iron-rich member (MgO 3.22%) of the ludwigite-vonsenite series.
