Named in honor of Robert Maxwell Boggs (b. 1918), of Seattle, Washington, USA, rediscoverer of the Goble tschernichite locality, and his son, Russel Calvin Boggs (b. 1952), of Cheney, Washington, USA, who characterized and named tschernichite.
