Fluoro-cannilloite

This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
Formula:
CaCa2(Mg4Al)(Si5Al3)O22F2
Defined as a an amphibole in the cannilloite group of the Calcium subgroup with Mg>Fe2+ and Al>Fe3+ in the C position and with F as the dominant anion in the W position
Colour:
grey-green
Lustre:
Vitreous
Hardness:
6
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Name:
In allusion to its composition, with FLUORine dominant over hydroxyl and its relationship to Cannilloite.
Originally, the mineral was named "cannilloite," but the type material was found to be fluorine-dominant (F>OH) and it was renamed as stated.

Note that the "fluoro-cannilloites" from Luc Yen, Vietnam, are pargasite (see http://www.mindat.org/mesg-7-198029.html).
