About RutiliteHide

The name rutilite has been variously used for:
1. Titanite (Jameson, R. (1808): System of mineralogy, vol III, p. 258; Phillips (1816): An Elementary Introduction to the Knowledge of Mineralogy, p. 228)
2. Almandine ( Pfaff, 1827, Dictionnaire des sciences naturelles Par André Jean François Marie Brochant de Villers, Alexandre Brongniart, Frédéric Georges Cuvier p.472 ;
3. Rutile (SHEPARD, 0. U., (1876): Catalogue of minerals found within 75 miles of Amherst College. Privately printed May 20, 1876).
4. The term is currently mostly used by gem dealers for rutilated quartz.
