Named in honor of Marian Tredoux (b. 20 September 1952), professor in the Department of Geology, University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa because of her work on the type locality - the Bon Accord nickel oxide deposit in the Barberton greenstone belt.
Isostructural with:
The Ni analogue of byströmite.
As subhedral to anhedral grains intergrown with bottinoite.
