Named by U. Hålenius and F. Bosi in 2013 in honor of amateur mineralogist Kjell Gatedal (b. 1947) from Nora, Örebro, Sweden, for his contributions to the mineralogy of Långban-type deposits.
The Mn2+ analogue of skogbyite.
