About AdachiiteHide

Formula:
CaFe3Al6(Si5AlO18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH)
Colour:
Brownish–purple to bluish–purple
Crystal System:
Trigonal
Name:
Named after 90 year old Tomio Adachi (b. 1923), retired high school teacher and amateur mineralogist who did a lot of investigation at the Kiura mine, the type locality for this new tourmaline species. Adachi served as an inspiration to some of the young collectors who later became professional mineralogists.
Adachiite is the first member of the tourmaline group formed via Tschermak–like substitution.
