About AluminopyracmoniteHide

Colourless to white
Specific Gravity:
Crystal System:
Named as the chemical (but not structural) Al analogue of pyracmonite.
Closely related to pyracmonite (chemically the ferric Fe analogue; not isostructural). Chemically related to godovikovite; ammonioalunite (basic salt, anhydrous); huizingite-(Al) and tschermigite (hydrated minerals). Admixture of K suggests a solid solution with hypothetical K3Al(SO4)3 end-member.

Crystal structure contains two types of Al octahedra, that share all corners with sulfate tetrahedra in two possible conformations and occupation of 2/3 or 1/3, thus forming infinite Al(SO4)3 chains. NH4+ ions are located in voids between chains, extending along [001]; they are involved in hydrogen bonding with oxygen of sulfate group not taking part in Al coordinating.
