He Zuolin
Formula:
(Sr,REE)4Zr(Ti,Fe3+)4(Si2O7)2O8
Colour:
Black
Lustre:
Resinous
Hardness:

Name:
Named in honor of He Zuolin (何作霖) (5 May 1900, Ji County, Hebei Province, China - 17 November 1967), professor of geology in Shandong University, Beijing Normal University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was a pioneer in the research of rare earth element (REE) deposits and discovered the first REE minerals at the Bayan Obo deposit in 1935. The type material is the same as an earlier described, but not approved, "saimaite" of Peng et al. (1963).
Dimorph of:
The Zr analogue of matsubaraite. Perrierite subgroup. Chemically intermediate between rengeite and perrierite.

Structurally similar to rengeite. One of the differences is that O(1), O(2) and O(3) sites in hezuolinite structure are split in rengeite's; the Si(1)-O(7)-Si(2) angle is less bent than in rengeite.
