About Yttromicrolite (of Hogarth)
Formula:
(Ca,Y3+,U,Na)2-x(Ta,Nb,Ti,Fe3+)2O7
Colour:
black to dark-brown
Lustre:
Vitreous
Crystal System:
Isometric
Member of:
Name:
According to Y content and affiliation to Microlite group.
Hjelmite from Kårarvet was investigated and redefined by Crook (1979) as yttromicrolite. In 1982 in the course of study by Crook, yttromicrolite was discredited as an "amorphous mixture of calcium sulfate, tantalite and microlites of different composition": Peacor et al. (1982). An official discreditation was not done.
Modern microprobe investigation of material from the type locality show that yttromicrolite-(Y) exists within the framework of nomenclature of Hogarth (1977). According to tje modern nomenclature of the pyrochlore supergroup (Atencio et al., 2010), the investigated specimens also fit with yttrian Oxycalciomicrolite, but further investigation of material from the type localty is required to result in revalidation of yttromicrolite-(Y).
