Named in 1968 by Richard Venable Gaines in honor of Dr. Frederick Harvey Pough [June 26, 1906 Brooklyn, New York, USA - April 7, 2006 Rochester, New York, USA), American mineralogist, curator of Mineralogy of the American Museum of Natural History, director of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, and author of Petersen's Field Guide to Minerals.
