Named by Marianne Gillberg in 1960 in honor of Per Adolf Geijer (7 May 1886, Svea Artillery Government's Assembly, Sweden - 18 April 1976, Danderyd, Sweden) economic geologist with the Swedish Geological Survey (SGU), and professor at the Royal Institute of Technology.

Perite from the Zakharovskoe deposit is bromian, with 0.62 wt.% Br.
