A variety of Pyrochlore Supergroup
Regarded by Hogarth (1977) as synonymous with betafite (of Hogarth 1977), but more recent analysis (see https://www.mindat.org/mesg-494971.html) classified it as Uranpyrochlore (of Hogarth 1977). However in the newer classification (Atencio, et al. 2017) it is right on the border line between U-bearing Hydroxylcalcipyrochlore and "zero-valent dominant" pyrochlores (see https://www.mindat.org/photo-145735.html). These are difficult to categorise precisely without careful structural and water analyses.
Not to be confused with the silicate minerals mendeleevite-(Ce) and mendeleevite-(Nd).
Also spelled mendeleyevite, mendelyeevite and mendelejevite (Palache et al., 1944).
