Named 1983 by K.A. Butt and K. Mahmood in honor of Dr Munir Ahmad Khan (20 May 1926, Kasur, Punjab – 22 April 1999, Vienna, Austria), Chairman, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, who instituted the Mineral Research Laboratories in the Commission.
May dehydrate to metamunirite.
