About Magnesio-fluoro-hastingsite
Formula:
NaCa2(Mg4Fe3+)(Si6Al2)O22F2
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Member of:
Type Locality:
The name fluoro-magnesiohastingsite has also been used for this mineral. The 2012 amphibole nomenclature follow the principle that the various prefixes to the root name are listed in order it occurs in the formula. The approved name for this mineral is consequently Magnesio-fluoro-hastingsite.
The hastingsite-group minerals are defined with 0.5 < A(Na+K+2Ca)<1.5 where Na or K is dominant and with the C position occupied by Mg or Fe2+ as dominant divalent ions and 0.5 < C(Al+Fe3+ +Cr+2Ti) < 1.5 where Fe3+ is dominant. W may contain (OH),F or Cl.
Fluoro-magnesiohastingsite is defined with:
A position: Na dominant
C position: Mg dominant divalent ion
W position: F dominant
