Name:
Named in 1966 by Michael J. Gallagher and David Atkin for the type locality, the Ankole District and for "meta-" suggesting a level of hydration of the mineral. Ankole originally was a kingdom in what is now southwestern Uganda.
Meta-autunite Group. Chemically the P analogue of abernathyite (also the same point group).
