Crystal System:
Named by M. Anand, L.A. Taylor, M.A. Nazarov, J. Shu, H.K. Mao, and R.J. Hemley in 2003 Bruce William Hapke (b. 17 February 1931), planetary geologist and Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, who first predicted the presence of vapor-deposited elemental iron as coatings on lunar soil grains. Asteroid 3549 Hapke is also named in his honor.
One of many natural Fe-Si phases; beside the approved species (listed below) you may want to compare Unnamed (Fe silicide I), Unnamed (Fe silicide II) and UM2000-60-Si:Fe.
