Named after the village of Jagüé, which is the closest settlement to El Chire, the mine where the mineral was discovered.
Copper analogue of chrisstanleyite.

Occurs in a telethermal selenide vein-type deposit.

Originally called "jaguéite"; renamed in 2010 (IMA 10-D).
