About MeniayloviteHide

Formula:
Ca4[(SO4)(SiF6)(AlF6)]F · 12H2O
Colour:
White to yellowish
Lustre:
Vitreous
Crystal System:
Isometric
Name:
Named by L.P. Vergasova, T.F. Semyonova, V.B. Epifanova, S.K. Filatov, and V.M. Chubarov in 2004 in honor of Igor Aleksandrovich Meniaylov (14 March 1937, Russia - 14 January 1993, Galeras, Columbia), Russian volcanologist, Institute of Volcanology of Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskii, for his contributions to the geochemistry related to the Tolbachik Main Fracture Eruption. He died tragically while investigating a volcano in Columbia.
Very closely related to Chukhrovite-(Ca).

NOTE: The IMA formula shown (automatically taken from the IMA list and not editable by managers) is incorrect - the listed (SiO4) should be (SO4), as is correctly shown in the mindat formula.
