Named by L.P. Vergasova, T.F. Semyonova, V.B. Epifanova, S.K. Filatov, and V.M. Chubarov in 2004 in honor of Igor Alexandrovich Meniaylov (Игорь Александрович Меняйлов) (14 March 1937, Russia - 14 January 1993, Galeras, Columbia), Russian volcanologist, Institute of Volcanology of Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskii, for his contributions to the geochemistry related to the Tolbachik Main Fracture Eruption. He died tragically while investigating a volcano in Columbia.
