Named in 2004 by Roberta Oberti, Fernando Cámara, and José Maria Caballero in honor of Eric James William Whittaker [November 1, 1921 England, UK - July 2, 2015 Kidlington, Oxfordshire, England, UK], reader of mineralogy at Oxford University for his important contribution to mineral crystal structures and crystal chemistry, particularly amphiboles.
