Name:
Named by Pete J. Dunn, Donald R. Peacor, and Bozidar Darko Sturman in honor of Mr. John A. Kolic [September 30, 1943 Dover, New Jersey, USA - October 3, 2014 Andover, New Jersey, USA] of Franklin, NJ, an expert hardrock miner and exploratory driller at the Sterling Mine, Ogdensburg, NJ, who was well-known to have a "3D" image of the mine and orebody in his mind. He provided critical expertise to converting the Sterling Mine to a public-access museum and made numerous contributions to the mineralogy of the Sterling Hill orebody.
Kolicite is rare at the type locality, the Sterling Mine, Ogdensburg. Only one specimen has been identified from the Franklin Mine, Franklin to date.
