Named by A.P. Khomyakov, E.I. Semenov, E.M. Es´kova, and A.A. Voronkov in 1974 in honor of Maria Efimovna Kazakova (1913 - 1982), analytical chemist at the Institute of Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Rare Elements, Moscow, Russia. She made the chemical analyses of many new Russian minerals.
