About Guarinite
Formula:
(Na, Ca, Zr, Si, F, O)
Name:
First described by Guiscardi (1857), who named it after the Italian chemist Giovanni Guarini (1794–1857), Professor at the Univer-
sity of Naples.
sity of Naples.
A silicate and fluoride of Na, Ca and Zr. See also Clinoguarinite and Orthoguarinite. Possibly a mixture of Hiortdahlite and Wöhlerite (look Photo ID: 221633).
Originally reported from Monte Somma, Somma-Vesuvius Complex, Naples Province, Campania, Italy.
Bellezza et al. (2012) reported that guarinite contains up to three distinct domains, corresponding to three different ways to connect disilicate groups and walls of octahedra.
