Named by D. Weber and A. Bischoff in 1994 in honour of Dr. Shulamit Gross (1923, Grodno, Poland (now Belarus) - 19 September 2012), emeritus member of the Geological Survey of Israel. She first discovered the natural mineral.
Grossite is the natural counterpart of the synthetic compound Ca-dialuminate (CaAl4O7)∙
