Name:
Named by Paul (Paulus) Brian Moore and Jun Ito in 1973 in honor of Peter John Wyllie [February 8, 1930 London, UK-], American mineralogist and petrologist at University of Chicago and California Institute of Technology. Wyllieite was redefined and renamed by Moore and Ito in 1979 (Min. Mag. v. 43, p. 227 (1979) as ferrowyllieite-(MnNaNa) and a new species was re-assigned the older root name wyllieite-□NaCa, but no physical description was published of the new wyllieite although the chemistry was presented and the structure was verified.
