Named in honor of Aleksandr Anatol'evich Kanonerov (Александра Анатольевича Канонерова) (27 February 1955 - 27 September 2003), mining historian (Nizhnii Tagil Museum of Mining Industry), who found the mineral.
Mn2+ analogue of Hylbrownite.
