2wRe: Talc psm. quartz?Reply from Martin Rich in Photos.
In my opinion the right crystal looks like a combination of hexagonal prism with hexagonal dipyramid 2nd order, so I assume this was an apatite crystal.

Last weekend, I purchased a nice specimen of aragonite in shape of flos ferri with blueish hue at Bologna mineral show. The lable says: Mina Ca Zermanin, Val Trompia, Bovegno. There is no locality Mina Ca Zermanin (yet) on mindat. Does someone of our friends from Italy know such a locality and is ...

7wRe: Home pages of deceased users - suggestion for standard modificationReply from Martin Rich in Improving Mindat.org.
In the case of hammer and pick we should use the symbol up to down or rotaded in 180°. In German and Austria that means the mine or quarry is abandoned, a good metaphor for deceased mindat members. ...

9wRe: Russia Crystals on quartz.Reply from Martin Rich in Identity Help.
Reminds me somewhat from anywhere from Kazakhstan, maybe Kara-Oba or Akchatau. If I see right, these are smoky quartz crystals covered with small muskovite and single galena (fluorite?) crystals.

Is the forming of glycolic acid only possible from C3-type plants, or are C4-type plants also involved?
14wWrong mineralPosted by Martin Rich in Photos.
Reinhold, you mistyped the wrong mineral in the form, should be fluorite.
14wRe: Locality Hungary calcite?Reply from Martin Rich in General.
Eddy, do you know if this is a historycal specimen? If so, it could be from a locality in todays area of Slovakia. The specimen looks like aragonite as flos ferri and probably came out from Hodrusa Hamre. Hodruša-Hámre mines, Hodruša-Hámre, Žarnovica District, Banská Bystrica Region, ...

Dec 2023Re: Symbols of locality mapsReply from Martin Rich in Improving Mindat.org.
Uwe, I know this feature. Very useful for estimating the size of a crystal on a specimen. During the uploading process, one can draw a line on the gray preview photo to give the FOV or the specimen size.
Dec 2023Re: Archiving ink - fade test resultsReply from Martin Rich in Techniques for Collectors.
