A volcano group that was formed 200,000 years ago by numerous individual eruptions which produced basalt lava flows and various pyroclastic deposits.

Three lava flows took place: the Ettringer lava flow, the Mayen lava flow and the Winfeld lava flow.

Description: A component of a silicious xenolith composed mainly of quartz, a little sanidine and a few isolated garnet crystals (presumably almandine). The xenolith had been found 2 years earlier by G. Möhn. J. Lorenz from Karlstein am Main identified the andalusite conclusively by XRD.
