The Union Jack Gold Mine was a small lease in the northern section of the Golden Mile. The Genevieve lease bordered it to the south, Boulder Extended to the west, True Blue to the east, and Ironsides lease to the north. GML 433E.
Its noted in 1910, the Union Jack Gold Mining No Liability Kalgoorlie syndicate was formed to take over the Union Jack and Union Jack South leases. It states the lode had never been developed to that point, although the Union Jack lease appears on an 1896 map of the Golden Mile.
Another source states prospectors Coaffer and McArthur were working the lease in 1894, possibly the original prospectors considering the goldfield only started the year before. The Octagon Explorers Syndicate is noted as owing the lease in 1896.
For a brief time in 1897, the lease was known as the Kalgoorlie United. It states the lode is 3 feet wide, and of high grade, being a jasper reef on the western side of the lease, changing to graphitic slate at depth, covered in pyrite, and presumably some gold. The same year there was an alluvial rush onto the lease. A one ounce nugget had been found on the surface.
Willman and Grissold (surnames) offer lease owner dour Scotsman, Black (surnames), 1000 pounds cash for the lease in 1909. He declines and places the lease on the market for a higher price. By 1911, there are three tributing parties on the lease.
John Smith applied for the lease in 1914, and then Edward Rule in 1921.
A Kalgoorlie syndicate is formed in 1924 to take over the lease. Tributers across 1921 to 1923 obtained 7749 tonnes of ore yielding 3369 ounces of gold averaging 8.66 dwt.
Neighbouring North Kalgurli (1912) Limited take over the lease, and together with the Genevieve lease, recondition the old shafts, carting ore to their main plant across 1930 to 1934.
