Comments:Allanite-(Y) was first described in 1844 as "bodenite" from Boden, an area where limestone and iron ore were extracted from marbles and skarns.

The "bodenite" occurred as acicular crystals embedded in plagioclase feldspar. Breithaupt (1844) describes the crystals as seemingly black, but brownish to smoke colored in thin splinters, and up to “1 Linie breiten und bis 1 Zoll langen Säulen” (approximately 0.6 by 26 mm).
