A former Hg-S mine located in the SE¼ sec. 13, T14N, R6W, and in sec. 18, T14N, R5W, MDM, 5.1 km (3.1 miles) WNW of Wilbur Springs, along the West Fork Sulphur Creek. Discovered about 1908. Produced in 1908-1909 & 1916. Owned by W. S. Norman. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in serpentinite and shale. The ore body form is a ledge. Controls for ore emplacement include a silicified zone in serpentine. Deposit occurs in an area of hot spring activity. Alteration is local and involves the opalization of serpentine. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 2 (Coast Ranges) and/or rocks of the Franciscan Complex, unit 1 (Coast Ranges).
Workings include unspecified surface and underground openings with a length of 152.4 meters.
Production data are found in: Bailey, E.H., USGS, personal files.
Production data: ^8 pounds (253 grams [?])/metric ton of ore. NOTE: Metric equivalent in grams is in error, should be over 3,600 grams. General grade of this deposit is low.
A couple of attempts were made at producing sulfur.
