The "Steinbruch an der Holzchaussee" (quarry at the wood road) is an abandoned small quarry for quartz porphyry at the eastern slope of the "Großer Auerberg" hill north of Stolberg. The quarry is reachable from the tourist parking place on the way to the south (called Holzchaussee) within about 20 minutes to go. The rock is interspersed with small quartz veinlets, these contain the the interesting mineralization.
