NOTE: Two USGS MRDS database files apparently referring to the same (??) locality present widely discrepant data regarding the location of this deposit (Granville County versus Avery County with discrepant geographic coordinates. MRDS file #10026377 attributes the deposit to the Cranberry Magnetite Mining District in Granville County, which is not correct, while file #10248220 places it in Avery County but does not address the district. The geographic coordinates in file #10248220 are the correct coordinates and place this mine in the midst of other magnetite deposits).
