A small copper mine, located north of Wheal Buller, east of East Wheal Basset and south of Clyjah and Wentworth Mine. The sett is about 300 yards wide from north to south and extends about 1,400 yards westward from the Redruth-Falmouth road. The mine is quite old: it was already worked before 1800 but lay idle in the early 19th century (Thomas, 1819). For a short period of time around 1825, it was united with Clyjah and Wentworth Mine, but has later been worked with Wheal Buller.
The chief lode is Main Lode (No. 1 lode), the eastward extension of East Basset Lode, which was opened up from six shafts (from east to west Powling's Shaft, More's Shaft, New Engine Shaft, Rosewarne's Shaft, Flat Rod Shaft and Copper Hill Shaft) and has been developed for nearly the full length of the sett. Whitford's Lode of Clyjah and Wentworth Mine enters the western part of the sett north of Main Lode and has been developed for 15 fms from a crosscut NW of Copper Hill Shaft. In addition, South Lode and Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 6 lodes, all apparently branches from the footwall of Main Lode, were tried from crosscuts from the workings on Main Lode.
The only record of output under the name of Copper Hill Mine is for 760 tons of copper ore raised in 1855-1856.
